Suffer from sinusitis? Acupuncture can help

Sinuses commonly refers to the paranasal sinuses, which are air cavities in the cranial bones near the nose. There are four paired sinuses located in the cranial bone or skull. Sinusitis or sinus infection or rhinosinusitis is a condition that sinuses are inflamed resulting in symptoms. The symptoms include pain, swelling and tenderness around your cheeks, eyes or forehead, thick nasal mucus, blocked nose, reduced smell, sinus headaches, high temperature, toothache, bad breath, sore throat, coughing etc. Sinusitis can be caused by infection, allergies, air pollution etc. Most common cause is viral infection and it can be caused by bacterial infection. Sinusitis is very common after a cold or flu. Acute sinusitis may last a few weeks. Sinusitis can be recurrent which a few episodes are within a year. Chronic sinusitis is the symptoms last longer than 12 weeks.

Recent research has shown that acupuncture can help with sinusitis. A study with 24 participants has shown that acupuncture reduced nasal congestion caused by sinusitis. A survey from 321 practioners has shown that they use acupuncture in the treatment of patients with chronic sinus and nasal symptoms and obtain good results.
